“Crew is a sport like no other. Many of us are new to the sport and had no idea what to expect initially. That’s the great thing though, it allows for that kid who has never been the “athletic” type to find this special sport to help them live a healthy and happy lifestyle. It helped me realize that I can be part of something that I love. Even on the hard days, it feels good to know that I am surrounded by a supportive community. We have made amazing bonds and memories together as a team. Traveling, racing, and competing all come together to give us this great and humbling experience.”

"Growing up as someone who was unwilling to participate in many activities, including sports, crew was something I felt obligated to do at the beginning because of the effort someone had put in attempting to convince me. But with the wide variety of personalities each person had, it allowed me to enjoy myself. I opened myself up to the possibilities of friendship that I would not have otherwise had. The largest effect came from the races. Spending so much time surrounded by a supportive team that only thinks of each other is an amazing feeling- there is no way for me not to accept their kindness and humor. To me, the crew team has become like my family. With our two coaches as parents, each of us worked in hopes of becoming a greater part of the whole. I return to try my best because of the respect I have for this family which taught me to both work hard and enjoy my time while doing it. Crew is a way of life. It is the way I live."

"Crew is such a mentally and physically demanding sport and I am truly indebted to my teachers, coaches and parents for all their support. This sport has taught me that I have to be organized to juggle my studies, practices, races and volunteer work and not fall behind. Crew has helped me become more confident, outgoing and made me more mature and persistent. For me, rowing will always be part of who I am as a person, and has taught me many lifelong lessons. This sport has brought me to my highest athletic level, but work very hard to get there. Crew has shown me how to persevere and stay motivated to succeed. I listened and learned, mentored others as I grew, rowed in the most perfect and miserable weather, won and lost races. I found out what it means to be a team player, working towards the common goal while achieving our personal best.
As the crew saying goes: 'no time outs, no half-times, and no substitutes.'"

"The reason I joined crew was to have new experiences with a sport that I have never tried before, and to get exercise at the same time. When I first joined crew, I thought it was just about rowing, but I learned that it is more than that; it’s about teamwork. My friends recommended that I join crew because they needed more people on the team, and this year I finally decided to join. I immediately regretted not taking crew last year because of how fun of an experience it turned out to be. I’ve met plenty of new people on the team and became even closer to friends that were on the team already."
